John Michael Robson

Dear Aberdeen City Council,

I would like to know how much was allocated for and spent on road repairs for each of the last ten years, and how much has been allocated for the current year?

How often are the roads in Aberdeen assessed for repair work?

How many repairs are considered as being full or permanent reinstatement?

How many repairs are considered as being temporary?

If temporary, how long is that period meant to be?

What considerations are made in advance for any repairs to go ahead?

What are the most common reasons for postponement, delay or abandonment of repairs?

Yours faithfully,

John Michael Robson

Dear Mr Robson,

Thank you for your request for information.

We would like to ask you to clarify your request so that we can identify
and locate the information which you have requested.

How many repairs are considered as being full or permanent reinstatement?

How many repairs are considered as being temporary?

We would be extremely grateful if you could clarify a timeframe for this
part of your request? Are you looking for the number of ‘temporary’ or
‘permanent’ repairs in the last year? Or the last 10 years?

Clarifying these points will help us to be sure we are providing, where
possible, the information you are interested in.  Please note we will keep
your request on file for 20 working days whilst we await your
clarification.  It can often be helpful to discuss your request with a
member of our team who may be able to help you frame your request or
explain more about how ACC holds its information; if this is something you
feel may be helpful please do call us, and we will be happy to assist you.

If you are dissatisfied with the way we have handled your request or the
content of it, you are entitled to ask for an appeal. You can do this from
your [1]Aberdeen City Council self service account.

For more information on your right to review, please visit [2]Freedom of
Information Review and Appeals.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Title of request: Road Repairs

Dear John Michael Robson,

Thank you for your information request. We have completed the necessary
search for the information requested. Our response is now detailed below.

1. I would like to know how much was allocated for and spent on road
repairs for each of the last ten years, and how much has been allocated
for the current year?

Revenue
Actual Budget
2011/12 673,919 844,253
2012/13 384,192 844,253
2013/14 401,772 833,896
2014/15 469,512 833,896
2015/16 544,466 833,896
2016/17 860,712 833,896
2017/18 298,724 834,149
2018/19 549,036 662,597
2019/20 462,916 512,597
2020/21 244,635 559,000
2021/22 559,000

2. How often are the roads in Aberdeen assessed for repair work?

This varies by road. All roads undergo at least one condition assessment
per year however most undergo more. Inspectors report road conditions and
a list of potential schemes is drawn. These are then further assessed to
inform a programme of works. A third party has conducted a condition
assessment of all adopted roads at roughly 6 monthly intervals for the
last 2.5 years and this information also feeds into the process along with
the outcome of the annual Scottish Roads Maintenance Condition Survey
which covers a set percentage of the Scottish road network each year.

3. How many repairs are considered as being full or permanent
reinstatement? I would be extremely grateful if you could provide
information regarding the number of both permanent and temporary repairs
over the last ten years.

5. If temporary, how long is that period meant to be?

There is no defined period for how long a temporary repair can last, as it
varies by repair.

6.What considerations are made in advance for any repairs to go ahead?

Safety impact of defect/deterioration, location, risk of encountering
defect/deterioration, probable consequences of encountering
defect/deterioration, site ranking vs other potential locations for
repairs, resource availability, other works in the locality (including
from 3rd party contractors), cost of works, impact on residents, impact on
businesses, impact on traffic flow, requirement for traffic management,
effect on any utilities present, materials availability, and any other
considerations required at the location. There is no exhaustive list and
all site assessments consider the guidance of the code of practice for
roads operations, Well Maintained Highways Infrastructure which is readily
available online. https://www.ciht.org.uk/ukrlg-home/code-...

7. What are the most common reasons for postponement, delay or abandonment
of repairs?

reasons for postponement, delay or abandonment of repairs.
