Road Maintenance Information - Longbottom Lane Beaconsfield
Dear Buckinghamshire County Council,
I am writing to request the following information in relation to Longbottom Lane, Seer Green, Beaconsfield - specifically the section of road leading from the A355 onto Longbottom Lane heading past Hinton House.
- Dates of all safety inspections undertaken on the carriageway between 1st Oct 2018 and 30th Oct 2019.
- Details of all carriageway defects identified during safety inspections between aforementioned dates.
- Details of how carriageway safety inspections are undertaken, including whether walked or driven, the speed of the inspection vehicle and the number of persons in the vehicle.
- The intended frequency of carriageway safety inspections.
- Details of all complaints and/or enquiries relating to the carriageway, received between aforementioned dates.
- The hierarchy classification.
- The road/section number.
- The defect intervention criteria adopted in relation to the identification of all categories of carriageway potholes
- The time period(s) adopted between identification and repair (temporary and permanent) of all categories of carriageway defects.
- Whether or not the authority has formally adopted all or part of the standards contained within the national code of practice for highways maintenance management.

Your request for information regarding Longbottom Lane, Beaconsfield has
now been considered and our response is as follows:
Dates of all safety inspections undertaken in the last year preceding the
date of 30^th October 2019
The dates of the safety inspections carried out on Longbottom Lane,
Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, received for the one year preceding 30th
October 2019, are detailed in the attached copy documents.
Details of all carriageway defects identified during safety inspections
preceding the date of 30^th October 2019.

The Road Section Number
MC21 is a classified road and numbered Road Number.
Details of how carriageway safety inspections are undertaken including
whether walked or driven, the speed of the inspection vehicle and the
number of persons in the vehicle
Safety inspections of the carriageway are undertaken from a slow moving
vehicle with two persons present in the vehicle due to the classification
of the road. Where the inspector determines that, in their reasonable
opinion, the inspection cannot be undertaken and defects effectively
observed from the vehicle, the inspection will be carried out on foot.
The intended frequency of carriageway safety inspections
Inspections are carried out twelve times per year.
The Hierarchy Classification
This road is deemed to be maintenance category 3b which is a secondary
distributer/town centre 'C/MC' road.
The Defect Intervention criteria adopted in relation to the identification
of all categories of highway potholes
The time period for a make safe or repair to be carried out after
identification of the defect, is dependent on its determined risk factor.
As from April 2017 Category 1 defects are repaired within 2 working days;
Category 2H defects are repaired within 5 working days from the time the
defect is assessed in accordance with the Highway Safety Inspection
Policy.
If a make safe repair is effected then permanent repairs will be
undertaken within 28 days of the initial make safe repair. Other, less
severe defects or larger structural problems will be programmed for
appropriate repair over a longer time period, or as part of a routine
maintenance programme.
The Council's current inspection policy was reviewed and set in accordance
with the 2016 UK Roads Liaison Group Well Managed Highway Infrastructure:
A Code of Practice.
Whether of not the Authority has formally adopted all or part of the
standards contained within the National Code of Practice for Highways
Maintenance Management
Buckinghamshire County Council as the Highway Authority has done
everything, so far as reasonably practicable, in all circumstances, to
deal with the situation and comply with our maintenance and inspection
procedure. The Council has diverted substantial sums of money to engage
additional resources to repair this unexpected and unprecedented amount of
damage and our teams continue to work diligently throughout the county to
find and repair these problems.
