Response team data
Dear Avon and Somerset Constabulary,
Please could you provide the following:
1. The number of officers allocated to response teams trained in Response Driving.
2. The current estimated wait for new officers starting on response to complete the Response driver training course.
3. The number of officers allocated to response teams that are currently Taser trained.
4. The current estimated wait for new officers starting on response to complete a Taser course.
5. The number of officers allocated to response teams, to help put this into perspective.
I understand answers to 2 and 4 will be determined on operational needs across the force, but the best general estimate from each department will suffice.
Yours faithfully,

Dear Arthur Coulter
I write in connection with your request for information dated 4^th May
2023 under the Freedom of Information Act.
Please see your request. Copied below, your questions are in bold, with
our response following each question.
Please could you provide the following:
1. The number of officers allocated to response teams trained in Response
Driving.
The number of Officers allocated to response is 492
2. The current estimated wait for new officers starting on response to
complete the Response driver training course.
There is no definitive amount of time for new officers to wait before
starting a response driving course. It varies depending on the team and
the skills held by officers on that team. It’s normal for officers to have
completed their probationary period before embarking upon a response
driving course.
3. The number of officers allocated to response teams that are currently
Taser trained.
There are 357 Taser trained Officers allocated to response
4. The current estimated wait for new officers starting on response to
complete a Taser course.
Student Officers can now attend a Taser Initial Course provided certain
criteria are met as outlined below:
• Officer has achieved Fully Operationally Competent (FOC) Status.
• The Officer’s Year 3 Placement via Workforce Planning is a frontline
role, Response / NPT.
• Student Officer has to have evidenced 3 times conflict management
within their PDU assessment process
• The application for the officer to attend a course is reviewed by,
Their PDU Assessor plus a PST/Taser Instructor in PDU if Assessor is
not one, Their Supervisor, then Superintendent. Once this is complete
then forward to the officer’s Resource Unit to allocate a space on a
course.
5. The number of officers allocated to response teams, to help put this
into perspective

Yours Sincerely
Clare Sampson
