The request was successful.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Please release to me any information which East Dunbartonshire Council holds in relation to the purpose of the premises adjacent to Industry Street, Kirkintilloch, which appears to serve as a residential facility for youths.

This should include, if held, the purpose of the facility and the nature of the residents.

Many thanks,

Yours faithfully,

The residential facility in Industry Street, Kirkintilloch is called the
Canal Project and is run by NCH. This project has eight self contained
flats with training and communal facilities for young people aged 16 - 21
years. The project offers a range of support to help young people move
into more positive furtures including gaining life skills to assist them to
sustain tenancies. The Canal Project provides temporary accommodation for
young people who are hoemless or at risk of homelessness. While they are
at the project, the young people are also helped to find training or work
opportunities and to develop key skills such as cooking and budgeting to
help them to move to independent living. The project has been operational
since 2004.

Another larger building development is underway in land in front of the
Canal Project. This project is called the Integrated Care Centre. The
custom built centre will deliver health care services from East
Dunbartonshire Council and NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. This project is
part of the programme for change under the management of the Kirkintilloch
Initiative (link road and Southbank Area Redevelopment etc). This project
combines local health and social services under one roof offering
physiotherapy, speech & language therapy, family planning, GP, social care
services and dentistry. The project will also provide specialist services
for the elderly and people with disabilities. The project is due to open
in the Autumn of 2009. Further information about the project can be
obtained through Tony Keogh, Head of Social Work,
[email address].

I have outlined the above two projects as I am not sure if it is the
Housing one (Canal Project) or the Integrated Care Centre (Health & Social
Work) which you refer to which went on site this year.

I trust that the above is of interest.
