Dear London School of Economics,
I would like to know the reserve list statistics for the Culture and Society MSc.
Specifically, I wish to know the number of people who were put on the reserve list, and the number who subsequently went on to be accepted to the course in the same year. I would like to know the statistics for the last 5 years, including the current 20/21 admissions.
Additionally, I wish to know the process by which applicants on the reserve list are chosen to be offered a place.
Thank you for your email. As you will appreciate, information requests
place additional demands on the School in terms of costs and staff time.
At present we are having to prioritise our finite resources in order to
meet the unprecedented challenges we are facing during the Coronavirus
(COVID-19) pandemic. As such, we need to advise you that while we will
continue to process individual requests, you may experience some delay in
our response during the current pandemic.
Further to your recent FoI request, the Schools response is provided below:
In the past 5 years, this programme has made only 10 reserve list places:
Pre 2018/9 - None
2018/9 - 2, of which neither was made an offer in that year. One reinstated and was made an offer in the following year.
2019/0 - 4, of which 3 were made offers in the same year.
2020/1 - 4, none of which has been made a full offer as yet.
With regards to how decisions are made, this matches the usual process for making offers (i.e. we look at earlier applications first) since we have rolling admissions, with preference given to those applicants who most closely fit the profile of merit, motivation and potential to succeed on the programme.
If you think that the information provided does not meet your request, contact Rachael Maguire on 020 7849 4622 or write to Louise Nadal, School Secretary, London School of Economics and Political Science, Houghton Street, London, WC2A 2AE. We will then review the response to your request and get back to you within 20 working days. You can also contact the Information Commissioner's Office http://www.ico.gov.uk/, though they expect the internal review to be carried out before receiving a complaint directly.
