Removal of extension to enable re-instatement under permitted development

The request was partially successful.

Dear Planning Inspectorate,

Please could you provide me with a copy of all appeals involving a demolition/ removal of part of an extension in order to re-instate a permitted development volume elsewhere on a property? i.e. removal of one roof extension volume in order to construct a similar sized roof extension elsewhere on the property within the 40/50cubic meter volume?

Yours faithfully,

Mark A

Plummer, Kevin, Planning Inspectorate

Dear Mark A

Thank you for your request for information from the Planning Inspectorate,
which has been passed to me for reply.

By way of advice and assistance, the following link is to our published
Appeal Data dataset.  The dataset does not cover “all appeals” but is
based on a rolling 5 years of casework decisions.  This data is updated
every quarter (approximately six weeks after the end of the particular
quarter in the year).

[1]https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics...

Column A of the dataset states the appeal reference.  Final column AU
states the nature of the development.  A specific appeal reference can be
used to look up the decision letter on our Appeals Casework Portal at the
following link:

The Planning Inspectorate does not categorise information in a way that
allows us to automatically identify appeals involving the specific
circumstances defined in your request.  We do not capture any reason why a
planning application was refused other than the stated reason for appeal.
Although we may otherwise hold information (for instance in appeal
submissions) that may allow us to compile the information requested, we
determine thousands of appeals each year and would need to manually review
the information we hold on each case, the extent of such an exercise is
far in excess of the appropriate limit (of £600 or 24 hours work)
stipulated in the Freedom of Information Act (or considered manifestly
unreasonable in respect of the Environmental Information Regulations
2004).

The data set contains a number of fields that you can use to conduct your
own search.  A free text search of the development description (column AU)
for key words may be undertaken but this will be dependent on the
appellant using the appropriate words or phrasing.  Alongside the data are
explanations of what all the data fields mean and also hints and tips for
searching the data set.

In the event you are unhappy with the outcome of your request for
information, or the way we handled your request, then you can ask for an
internal review.  Details of our review procedures and contact details for
the Information Commissioner’s Office are set out in the attached leaflet.
