Regulation of Investigatory Powers (Scotland) Act 2000
Please consider this email and its contents as a request for information in regards to the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
I would like to know:
1) As of the date of this email how many people within Scottish Borders Council are permitted to authorise surveillance in accordence with the RIPSA Act of 2000?
2) For each month of 2008 and for each complete month so far of 2009, how many requests have been made for surveillance under the RIPSA Act?
2a) Of these on how many occasions was authorisation granted for surveillance?
2B)of these how many applications for surveillance were refused?
3) Providing a cumulative figure from January 2008 to August 2009 (the last fully completed month) how many individuals were placed under surveillance as a result of a request made under the RIPSA Act?

Dear Mr Traill
Further to your request for information under the Freedom of Information
(Scotland) Act 2002 relating to the above I can now respond.
1. There are 6 people within Scottish Borders Council who are
permitted to authorise surveillance in accordance with RIPSA.
2. 2008 - No requests for surveillance were made.
2009 - One request for surveillance was made.
2a. One authorisation was granted.
2b. None were refused.
3. Only one individual was placed under surveillance from
January 2008 to August 2009.
