Dear Mr Titus,

Thank you for your information request of 19 September 2017. We have
considered your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (“the
FOI Act”).

You have requested information on:

“Number of dentists that have been registered as dental Therapist under
section36 c of dentist act 1984, From 2013  Jan to 2017 September Number
of dentists that have been registered as dental  hygienist under section36
c of dentist act 1984, From 2013 Jan to 2017 September dentists that are
registered both as a Dental  Therapist and as a Hygienist under section36
c of dentist act 1984, From 2013   Jan to 2017 September and asked for:

• Their country of Nationality,

• The total number of dentists that applied regardless of their outcome,

• Percentage of dentists that applied and were successful”.

To answer your request, we have conducted a search of our Registrations
records from 1920 to 2017. The transition to the current Customer
Relationship Management system in which our Registrations records are
stored took place in April 2012. During the transition process our
historical data was migrated to the new system, however please note that
it is likely that during the transition it was not possible to move or
adapt some data to the new system. We therefore consider the data for the
last 4 years to be the most reliable, demonstrative and complete.

Please find below our response to your request:

No. of Dentist Registered as a Dental Hygienist and/or Dental Therapist under
the S36c of the Dentist Act 1984 between
Jan. 2013 and Sept. 2017
Total Number of Registrations

Was a Dental
Hygienist before
registering as a
PORTUGAL 1 0 0 Dentist
Was a Dentist
before
registering as a
SPAIN 1 0 0 Dental Hygienist
Total 3 0 0

Turning to your request for the total number of dentists that applied
regardless of their outcome and the percentage of dentists that applied
and were successful we have identified  that none of our searches on our
customer relationship management system allow us to specify the level of
detail where we could identify the number of dentists applying to be
registered as a dental therapist under section36 c of dentist act 1984,
the number of dentists applying to be registered as dental hygienist
under section36 c of dentist act 1984 or the number of dentists applying
to be registered both as a dental therapist and as a hygienist under
section36 c of dentist act 1984.

To identify the level of detail requested for the past five years would
entail checking the application form for all applicants registering to be
either a dental therapist or dental hygienist under section 36c of the
dentists act 1984 to determine whether the application form included
details of the applicant being registered as a dentist with the GDC. We
are therefore unable to provide the information requested within the time
and cost limit set out in section 12 of the FOI Act. Section 12 of the FOI
Act allows a public authority to refuse to deal with a request where it
estimates that it would exceed the appropriate limit to locate, extract,
and/or retrieve the information requested. The appropriate limit for the
GDC is 18 hours or £450.

Internal review and complaints procedure

Hopefully you have found the information provided helpful. However, if you
are dissatisfied with our response or how your request has been handled
you can ask that an internal review be carried out.

Dear Mr Titus,

Thank you for your information request of 19 September 2017. We have
considered your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (“the
