Dear Land Registry,
Please advise if it’s legal to add registered owners names to a property other than the actual owners for the purposes of paying less tax. In this case the other owners in question receive no beneficial interest such as rents etc, but must still pay taxes on rent they never received.
Dear Ashraf Hammaad,
Thank you for your email of 13 September 2020 in which you requested information on whether it was legal to add registered owners names to a property, other than the actual owners for the purposes of paying less tax.
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives members of the public the right to ask to see recorded information held by public authorities. The request you have made does not fall under this description and I will therefore be unable to process your request.
HM Land Registry is unable to provide legal advice. Please contact your legal representative or local law centre who will be able to help you further.
