Regarding the PPE course admission statistics

Roedd y cais yn llwyddiannus.

Dear Hertford College, Oxford,

Under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I kindly
request some raw data from you regarding university applications.

1)The average number of A*s at GCSE for those made offers for
PPE in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
2) The median and range of TSA section 1 overall scores of applicants
made offers to economics and management in 2012 2013 and
2014.(range being highest and lowest scores rather than their
difference).

Yours faithfully,

David Bolarinwa

Dear Hertford College, Oxford,

The previous request you received from me asked for economics and management TSA statistics - this was a mistake. I would like to clarify that it is the PPE statistics that I request.

Yours faithfully,

David Bolarinwa

Matthew Hiscock, Hertford College, Oxford

Dear David

Many thanks for your request under the Freedom of Information Act.
As discussed when you made your request with regard to Economics and
Management, it is the case that the University rather than individual
colleges can best answer your query relating to test scores. But we can
help with the query relating to PPE.
The average number of A*s achieved by students who took GCSEs and
subsequently received an offer from Hertford for entry to the PPE course
in either 2012, 2013 or 2014 was 9.6.

When considering this figure, it should be taken into account that
Hertford College normally makes eight offers a year to PPE applicants. The
numbers involved are therefore very small and any variation between the
average at Hertford and any other college, or between Hertford and the
University as a whole, is unlikely to be statistically significant. It is
also the case that Hertford, like all colleges at Oxford, operates within
the University's Common Framework on Admissions, as part of which
applicants are routinely reallocated between colleges both before and
after interview. Those who receive offers from Hertford are not therefore
necessarily those who applied to Hertford, while some of those who applied
to Hertford may well have received offers from other colleges.

Full details of the Common Framework can be found here:

Best wishes
Matthew
