Humaira Khanom, General Dental Council

Dear Ms Critchley

Thank you for contacting the General Dental Council on 09 November 2017.

The General Dental Council (GDC) is the regulator responsible for the
regulation of dental professionals in the United Kingdom. We investigate
concerns that a dental professional may not be fit to practise. We use our
fitness to practise processes if a dental professional poses a risk to
patient safety or if a dental professional’s conduct is likely to
undermine public confidence in the profession. A dental professional may
not be fit to practise if they do not have the necessary skills or
knowledge to practise dentistry safely and effectively or if their health
or character means they cannot practise safely or effectively.

The GDC cannot give you a general response with regards to the type
treatment provided. To consider your concerns, we would need further
information with regards to this matter.

If you wish to raise concerns regarding a specific registrant and concerns
about dental treatment; please contact us again with full details of your
concerns and we can consider this to decide whether further investigation
is required by the GDC. You can raise concerns with us through our website
[1]here. Please include the full name and GDC registration number of the
dental professional in question.

You may wish to raise your concerns with the hospital/dental professional
or the NHS directly. They may access your child’s dental records and offer
you an explanation of the treatment provided. The NHS complaints
procedures can be found on their website:
[2]www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/complaints-and-feedback/Pages/nhs-complaints.aspx
or by calling them on: 0300 330 1348

If you are unsatisfied with the treatment, behavior or service of a dental
professional, please read our [3]who can help advice to find the best
organisation to help.

I hope this is of help.

Kind regards

Dear Humaira Khanom,
Hello thanks for getting back to me
My daughter had one broken tooth that had a none serious infection under it,
Three teeth that she had ground down in her sleep
Two that where repairable
She hurt my daughter because she didnt numb her before trying to put the injection in
And she said due to my daughters lack of co operation she would have to go t o the hospital for the extraction,
She then told me that the dental surgeon would take out all teeth with even slight damage., my daughter told her she wanted her to try again, she refused.

Yours sincerely,

Sarah Critchley

Humaira Khanom, General Dental Council

Dear Ms Critchley

Thank you for your email.

We do not comment on general procedure. In order to determine whether the
treatment provided by a dental professional is of appropriate standards,
we need to investigate on a case by case basis.

I look forward to receiving full details of your concerns in due course.

Kind regards
