Dear HM Passport Office,

I'm filling in the application form for my child that is 1 year old and I have a doubt regarding the professional referee "who has engaged with the child in a professional capacity".
My child has not attended any nurseries yet, but has had a professional nanny (Ofsted registered) with him in the last months. Can she be a valid referee for his application?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Yours faithfully,

FOI, HM Passport Office

Dear Gennaro

Thank you for your email.

In the case of a child applying for a British passport, the
countersignature you choose must of known yourself for at least two years.
It must be someone who you know on a personal level not just in a
professional capacity.

More information regarding acceptable countersignatures is available here:

However this list isn't exhaustive and it would be at my colleagues
discretion on whether to accept a profession outside of the list provided.

If you require any further information, please contact us via e-mail
