Recycling waste sent to India
Dear Sir or Madam,
In a recent television programme it was suggested that Tendring District Council allow the recyclable household waste be transported to India for landfill. Does Tendring know exactly where the household collections go for recycling.
Yours faithfully,
Mr P Chapman
Dear Mr Chapman,
I suspect that you are referring to the recent documentary that was
screened on ITV. I would like to point out that this referred to an issue
that occurred some 4 years ago and since that time we, at Tendring, have
been very proactive in ensuring that our recyclate is tracked as far as is
possible. I would add that our investigations at that time revealed that
this was an isolated incident and that we had ceased trading with that
company some month's previously.
We have all our recyclate collected by Veolia, a leading international
company in the field of waste management, who deliver this to an
Environment Agency licensed Materials Recycling Facility. From there it
has until recently been forwarded to a recycling company in Norfolk who
are again licensed by the Environment Agency.
However as a result of the world wide financial situation all of our
recyclate is now delivered to another company that is owned by Veolia who
do in fact provide a more extensive service.
Consequently in answer to you final question I have to answer YES.
Regards
Chris Kitcher

The outlets for materials is dependant on market forces but could be world
