Recycling Data

The request was successful.

Dear West Oxfordshire District Council,

I would like to request some data relating to recycled material from the council:

• What happens to the recycling once it is collected – where is it sorted, bundled and recycled.
• What percentage is recycled in the UK?
• What percentage is sent abroad to be recycled?
• If any is sent abroad, where is it sent?
• Does the council make any income from the sale of recycling? – If so how much?
• Does any income ever eclipse the money spent on collecting the recycling in the first place.

Yours faithfully,

Phillip Smith

Sian Stokes, West Oxfordshire District Council

Dear Phillip,

RE: FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 (FoIA) – REQUEST FOR RECYCLING DATA

Thank you for your request for information. This is being dealt with under
the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Please find below
details on the information you requested.

• Recycling is collected  by KIER Group PLC on behalf of West Oxfordshire
District Council.  It is sorted at the kerbside into collection

vehicles and baled at their local depot: Supergas industrial Estate, Downs
Road, Witney, West Oxon OX29 0SZ. Please see attached the most recent list
of End Destinations for this recycling.

• 98% of Oxfordshire’s waste is processed in the UK, for more information
please visit:
[1]www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/cms/content/where-our-recycling-goes

• 2% is processed abroad, for more information please visit:
[2]www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/cms/content/where-our-recycling-goes

• We do not hold information on where recycling is sent abroad.

• The Council does not make any direct income from the sale of the
recycling

• We do not receive any income from the sale of recycled material, thus no
surpluses.

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your
request and wish to make a complaint or request a review of our decision,
you should write to The Monitoring Officer, Woodgreen Offices, New Yatt
Road, Witney OX28 1NB.

If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint, you may apply
directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the
ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the complaints
procedure provided by the Council. The Information Commissioner can be
contacted at: The Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water
Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely

Sian Stokes
