Recent Refusal of Request "Taking Sides in Armed Foreign Conflicts, Suppression of Free Speech by the University of Cambridge"
Dear University of Cambridge,
Re: recently rejected request
https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/t...
You recently rejected a request made by Dr Ukrainian because you were not satisfied with the requestor's name. I would like to make essentially the same request. My name is of English (Anglo-Saxon/German) origin and I trust there will not be any name related confusion.
I would like to request exactly the same information as in the Dr Ukrainian's request:
1. The posting alleged to have appeared on Facebook as "Sponsored". Was Facebook paid for promoting this posting or is their an arrangement with Facebook to promote Cambridge Ukrainian Studies postings of this nature for free?
2. If Facebook was not paid for the posting please disclose details of the special arrangement with Facebook that results in such postings being promoted by Facebook as "Sponsored"?
3. If Facebook was paid for promoting the posting how much was Facebook paid for promoting this posting?
4. How much has been spent on promoting Cambridge Ukrainian Studies Facebook activities over the last four years (payments to Facebook, Google etc)? Where the funds for doing so have come from?
5. How much has been spent on promoting Facebook groups and postings of other departments (three largest departments by expenditure would be sufficient). Please provide staff counts (approximate) of the departments concerned as it would not be reasonable to compare 10 person department to 1000 person department without making adjustments. Please disregard any expenditure incurred for the direct purpose of advertising courses and attracting applicants.
6. Whether there is exists a policy in the University on political activities of their departments, especially in connection with foreign violent conflicts, foreign regime changes? In particular whether their departments are allowed to support regime changes in foreign countries or to back one side in a foreign conflict.
7. The listing of ALL the comments (I believe there were more than 30) to the Facebook posting in question. There is no need to identify the people by name, can refer to them as Person1, Person 2, etc. Please "identify" persons (again as Person1 etc) whose comments were liked by Cambridge Ukrainian Studies. Please identify separately any comments that were deleted or hidden by public view by Cambridge Ukrainian Studies. (Please note it is essential that the information is provided in the above manner as I believe it will clearly show that Cambridge Ukrainian Studies have been engaged in suppressing free speech by deleting reasonable comments that do not support their political stance and were expressing support for abusive posters who were supporting their political stance).
8. Given that the University have unreservedly backed one side of the armed political conflict, what steps and procedures are in place that students (and junior researches) are not bullied, victimized or abused if their political views on these foreign matters are not in line with the views so firmly taken up and promoted by the University?
Yours faithfully,
John Newman

Dear University of Cambridge,
Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.
I am writing to request an internal review of University of Cambridge's handling of my FOI request 'Recent Refusal of Request "Taking Sides in Armed Foreign Conflicts, Suppression of Free Speech by the University of Cambridge"'.
[ GIVE DETAILS ABOUT YOUR COMPLAINT HERE ]
The way my request was handled was a joke. It is apparent that you did not provide a valid response because it would be too embarrassing and inconvenient to answer truthfully.
A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/r...
Yours faithfully,
John Newman
