Dear Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons,
Please supply the raw data from the 2019 prisoner survey reported in the annual report for the following questions for each demographic category in the report:-
19.5 and 19.7
By raw data I mean the number of responses out of the total number of responses for each category, rather than the percentage figures rounded up to 0 decimal places in the report, eg 412 / 4031
If possible please also supply data for questions 19.5 and 19.7 broken down by answers to questions 1.4 and 1.6, ie how many prisoners who'd been in prison less than 6 months ID'd as transgender vs those who'd been in for more than 6 months, and same for those on indeterminate sentances and those on under 12 month sentences.
The percentage data from the report has been used in press articles to extrapolate out to provide an estimated figure for the entire prison population of 1,500 self identifying transgender prisoners, and to show that this is a higher level than the wider population.
I consider it in the public interest for more accurate figures to be supplied as 2% rounded to 0 decimal places is too innaccurate to be able to draw significant conclusions from, and there is significant public interest in these figures due to the Gender Recognition Act consultation and related policy discussions.
