Radio use on Tfl buses

Roedd y cais yn rhannol lwyddiannus.

Dear Transport for London,

Dear Department for Transport,

As a Bus driver I Believe Radios on Buses are essential TFL USE IT QUITE OFTEN TO GIVE OUT IMFORMATION .AND THEY USE IT SAFELY.
THen you have individual companies that breach that safety margin by calling individual Driver and constantly harasses over the radio
to distraction I do not think this is safe practice.
Could you please provide me with the legal guides line on this as using your phone driveing even with bluetooth is illegal I would like you to submit any documents regarding the use on busses

Yours faithfully,

Antony Sinclair

Dear Mr Sinclair

TfL Ref: FOI-3070-1920

Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 12
January 2020.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. I
can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:

Could you please provide me with the legal guides line on this as using
your phone driving even with bluetooth is illegal I would like you to
submit any documents regarding  the use on buses.

Please note there is an advice in the attached Big Red Book, on page 17,
about avoiding distractions. Page 117 talks about making calls on the cab
radio.

Sometimes the interaction between controllers and drivers can lead to
misunderstandings and assumptions on both parts – it is not necessarily an
unsafe practice to call a driver while he/she is driving, as the
controller won’t know or see that, but how the driver deals with that
situation and how they speak with each other.

If you feel there are unsafe practices, please use the company’s reporting
channels to raise this matter. It is for the bus operator to facilitate
opportunities for both parties to better understand each other.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable
to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would
like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
