Psychiatrists & Psychologists registering and reporting

The request was refused by General Medical Council.

Dear General Medical Council,

Can you explain why the GMC DO NOT oversee the professional standards of psychiatrists and psychologists which both are go through the similar lengthy training as medical doctors? PALS is NOT appropriate because they deal generally with all health professionals however ONLY medical doctors are registered at a higher level with the GMC - why is there NOT a similar organisation for both psychiatrists and psychologists that would work in the same way as the GMC?

RSPSYCH do not oversee the standards and conduct of psychiatrists and the similar organisation for psychologists is the same!

Please provide a FULL explanation why psychiatrists and psychologists are NOT monitored in a similar way and allowed to become untouchable in essence?

Yours faithfully,

James C

Dear James,

Thank you for your email.

The General Medical Council is the independent regulator of doctors in the
UK. We work to protect the public by setting, upholding and raising the
standards of medical education and practice. All doctors working in the
profession must be registered with us. Further information about our role
is published on our website

Psychiatrists are doctors and, as such, regulated by us.

Practitioner psychologists are regulated by the Health and Care
Professions Council [2]http://www.hcpc-uk.co.uk/

Dear Simon Willis (0161 923 6310),

GMC is a pointless organisation as they ONLY deal with very serious breaches that put patients at risk and the dr must be removed or limited to their practice - this shows Dr Nuwen Galappathie can treat vulnerable patients and tell them important information but when he is simply asked to confirm the same details he lies and says he NEVER said anything- he knows he is above the law and NO organisation can control what he does below the level whereby the GMC WILL take action

Yours sincerely,

James C
