Prosecution statistics for dog owners failing to clean up dog mess.
Dear Fylde Borough Council,
I would like to know how many dog owners in the Fylde have been prosecuted for failing to clean up after their dogs. As a resident of Lytham I witness the mess left by careless dog owners on a daily basis. I also wonder what council appointed staff for canine matters actually do on a daily basis. I have only seen them active on Lytham Green once in almost six years.
Yours faithfully,
Peter J Southern.
Sorry, I'm out of the office now until 12 February 2018 and will deal with
your email on my return to the office.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Dear Mr Southern,
Thank you for your email regarding dog fouling in the Borough. The
council’s response is as follows:
The Council employs two Dog Wardens who work a shift pattern covering 0700
- 1900 Monday to Friday, and a 6 hour moveable shift every Saturday. In
addition, an out of hours service is provided for stray dogs. The wardens
perform reactive and proactive patrols of the Borough. Since April 2017
have patrolled Lytham Green on 106 occasions at various times of the day.
For your information, during 2016/17 the Council commenced a consultation
exercise to consider the introduction of Public Spaces Protection Orders
(PSPO's) relating to dog control in the Borough. The Committee reports
relating to the introduction of the orders can be found at the following
links - [1]8/3/16, [2]15/11/16, [3]14/3/17 , [4]23/5/17 and further
information relating to the finalised orders is [5]here which I hope will
provide you with the reasoning behind the decisions.
On checking our records I confirm that 7 fixed penalty tickets were issued
in 2014/15 for matters relating to dog control, 3 in 2015/16, 2 in 2016/17
and 1 currently for this year.
Your email refers to fouling you see on a daily basis. Please report this
to Mr Chris Hambly, Environmental Health Manager on 01253 658422 so that
he can arrange for the dog wardens to pay some attention to the area and
we can also look to arrange a clean up.
I trust this is satisfactory but should you have any queries or require
any further information please do not hesitate to contact Mr Hambly on the
above telephone number.
Regards,
