Prohibition Notices

The request was successful.

Dear East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service,

I’d like to know since 14th June 2017, how many many multi-occupancy residential buildings in your authority have been served prohibition notices by the FRS or Council due to Fire Safety concerns, with residents forced to leave?

If possible, please include as much of the following in the disclosure relating to each incident
- The date of the order
- The address of the property
- The reasons given
- The number of individual units / homes affected (if they can provide that)

Yours faithfully,

Rachael Venables

Freedom of Information Requests, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service

Dear Rachael,

I refer to your Freedom of Information Act request which was received by
East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service on 5 January 2021.

Request:

I’d like to know since 14th June 2017, how many multi-occupancy
residential buildings in your authority have been served prohibition
notices by the FRS or Council due to Fire Safety concerns, with residents
forced to leave?

If possible, please include as much of the following in the disclosure
relating to each incident

- The date of the order

- The address of the property

- The reasons given

- The number of individual units / homes affected (if they can provide
that)

Response:

Since the 14 June 2017 East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service has issued one
prohibition notice with regard to multi-occupancy residential buildings
due to fire safety concerns.  Details are as follows:

Date Issued: 18 December 2017.

Address of Property: Common Ways, 37-38, High Street,  Hastings, TN34 3ER

Reasons Given: Inadequate separation in Flat 1 which will result in the
spread of smoke and flame to Flat 2 above.  Inadequate means of raising an
alarm in the event of fire and excessive travel distance in a single
direction due to structural condition of external escape ladder being in
poor condition.

Withdrawn 07/03/18: Prohibition Notice withdrawn as separate Improvement
Notices and a Prohibition Order have been served by the Council.  These
notices have been served under the Housing Act 2004 and address the
deficiencies identified at the property during the inspection.

Number of units/homes affected: 1 flat served a prohibition order making
it un-habitable therefore reducing the risk to 2^nd flat until works
carried out.

I hope this satisfies your request, however if you are unhappy with the
way in which your request has been handled, you can ask for a review by
writing to:
