Procurement of Dennis Rapier fire appliances

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service did not have the information requested.

Dear Humberside Fire and Rescue Service,

I am currently researching the Dennis Rapier fire appliance, produced from 1990 to the 2000s, and it has come to my attention that the Service/Brigade were a popular operator of Rapiers from the pre-facelift L-plates to the last YX51 FY* batch in 2001.

In this case, I have a few questions about the Service/Brigade's procurement of such fire appliances:
1. How many Dennis Rapiers were ordered and operated by the Service/Brigade in total, including the 'pre-facelift' L-plates?
2. How much did each Dennis Rapier appliance cost?
3. Why did Humberside standardise on the Dennis Rapier from 1994? What were the benefits of running Rapiers compared to, say, Volvos?
4. What made Humberside stop buying the Rapier by 2001?
5. Why did Humberside never operate/evaluate the Dennis Sabre? Was it an option after the Rapier?
6. Are there any Rapiers left with the Service? If so, where are they being used?

I hope these questions are satisfactory within the privacy boundaries of the Service, and that the Service is happy to release them. I understand if some information is no longer available, given that the first orders were nearly thirty years ago.

Kind regards,
Mx. Frost

The response is:

We can confirm we don’t have any Dennis Rapiers still in use within the

The Dennis Rapier was the successor to the Dennis SS that was used prior for many years and other previous Dennis models.

The 2001 batch were the final Rapier's made by Dennis. The commercial options such as Scania were cheaper options going forward due to them been a commercial chassis and lots more made of them.
