Dear University of Manchester,

1. Does the University have a policy for staff regarding sexual harassment/misconduct between (a) staff and staff, (b) staff and students? If so, please provide this, preferably a link to it or electronically. Such a policy might concern definitions, how to report, processes, and so on.
2. What kind of training (e.g. online or in-person; voluntary or compulsory) is provided to staff regarding sexual harassment/misconduct? Approximately how many staff have undergone this training in the last year? [or last year that has available data]
3. In the last year [or last year that has available data], how many cases of alleged sexual harassment/misconduct by staff (staff-student or staff-staff) have been reported to the university?

Yours faithfully,

S. McKay

Dear S McKay,

Thank you for your request for information received by The University of
Manchester on 29 November 2019 which was as follows:

1. Does the University have a policy for staff regarding sexual
harassment/misconduct between (a) staff and staff, (b) staff and students?
If so, please provide this, preferably a link to it or electronically.
Such a policy might concern definitions, how to report, processes, and so
on.

2. What kind of training (e.g. online or in-person; voluntary or
compulsory) is provided to staff regarding sexual harassment/misconduct?
Approximately how many staff have undergone this training in the last
year? [or last year that has available data]

3. In the last year [or last year that has available data], how many cases
of alleged sexual harassment/misconduct by staff (staff-student or
staff-staff) have been reported to the university?

The University has now considered your request and our response can be
found below.

1.      Our [1]Dignity at Work and Study Policy and Procedures are used if
it is a staff making an allegation against a student, if the complaint was
upheld, this could then be routed through our [2]regulation XVII (conduct
and discipline) specifically the sexual misconduct procedure.

2.      Front line professional services staff receive a 2-hour
face-to-face session on “responding effectively to disclosures of sexual
violence”, which includes a section on definitions and behaviours. An
online accompanying module is in development for next year. 200 staff have
undergone this training in the last year.

3.      During 2018/19 there has been two cases of alleged sexual
harassment/misconduct of staff-staff and three cases of student-staff.

I trust this information is of use to you.

Kind regards

Sharon
