Dear Henna,
Thank you for your email dated 19 December 2013 within which you request
information under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Following the flotation of Royal Mail on the London Stock Exchange on 15
October 2013, it is no longer subject to the Freedom of Information Act.
Royal Mail was previously subject to the Act because it was wholly owned
by the government. However, now that the government has sold some of its
shares in Royal Mail, this is no longer the case. Therefore, we are no
longer obliged to respond to requests for information under the terms of
the Act.
I can however advise that complaints information is available on our
website; [1]www.royalmailgroup.com within the quarterly Quality of Service
reports and the Annual Consumer Complaints and Compensation Scheme Report.
The total number of complaints received are provided, this is further
broken down according to category of complaint. I can confirm there is not
a category for ‘theft’. It may also be useful to advise that within the
Transparency section of the Annual Report and Accounts information is
available in respect of Mail Security including prosecutions for theft of
mail. This information can also be accessed via our website,
