Dear Cllr Croney

Re: Freedom of Information Request

I am writing in response to your e-mail received by Post Office Limited on
13 April 2009 in relation to Post Office® branches, which I am dealing with
under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. (the Act)

In your e-mail you have requested the following information;

I would be grateful if you would send, to me, all information relating to
the decisions not to close the following Post Offices:

Chichester: Parklands Post Office. Somerset: Hinton St George Post Office.

In response to your request I would advise you that Post Office Limited
does hold information relevant to your request. It would be appropriate at
this juncture to explain how the Network Development Manager made decisions
in relation to each Network Change Programme Area Plan.

When the local public consultation period for an area plan proposal
concluded the Network Development Manager (NDM) reviewed all of the
correspondence received by the National Consultation Team. The NDM would
have read all the issues raised within the correspondence and reviewed them
against the factors we are required to consider before making their final
decision. Once the NDM had reviewed the correspondence they would complete
the Decision Document which has subsequently been published on the Post
Office® website at; http://www.postoffice.co.uk/networkchange.

Therefore information relating to the decision to retain Post Office®
Parkland branch is contained within the Network Change Programme Area Plan
Decision Booklet for Surrey, Berkshire and West Sussex and information
relating to the decision to retain Post Office® Hinton St George branch is
located within the Bristol and Somerset Area Plan Additional Consultations
Decision Booklet published on the Post Office® website, detailed above. I
have attached copies of these two decision documents.

On our website you will also find Area Plan Proposals and Branch Access
Reports containing information Post Office Limited took into account when
making decisions on all branches within an area. You will also find Area
Plan Maps, along with the previous mentioned Decision Documents which
detail the decisions made with information on the key factors taken into
consideration from the local public consultation.

In addition to the information above I can advise you the Post Office
Limited received a large number of responses to public consultation for
both branches. If you would like to see copies of these responses please
contact me via e-mail or at the address below clearly detailing a postal
address and I will arrange for the copies to be despatched.

I hope the information detailed above is of use. However if you are
dissatisfied with this response for any reason you do have a right to
request an internal review, in which case please write to the Head of
Information Compliance, Royal Mail House, Company Secretary's Office, 5th
Floor, 148 Old Street, LONDON, EC1V 9HQ. An internal panel will then
review the request, and you will be advised of the outcome.

If, having requested an internal review by Royal Mail, you are still not
satisfied with our response you also have a right of appeal to the
Information Commissioner at:
Information Commissioner's Office
Wycliffe House
Water Lane
Wilmslow
Cheshire
SK9 5AF
Telephone: 01625 545 700
