Police Injury Pension Reviews

The request was successful.

Dear Northern Ireland Policing Board,

I am requesting information under the terms of the Freedom of
Information Act. It concerns the review of police injury pensions
under Regulation 37 of The Police Service of Northern Ireland and
Police Service of Northern ireland Reserve (Injury Benefit)
Regulations 2006.

Will you please provide me with the following data:

1) How many reviews of police injury pensions have been conducted
since January 2005? I ask that you provide the data set out year by
year commencing from January 2005 up to and including December
2011.

2) Of these reviews,

a) how many resulted in an increase in the pension paid?

b) How many resulted in a decrease in the pension paid?

c) How many resulted in no alteration in the pension paid?

d) How many were of former officers at or over the age of 65?

e) Of the reviews identified in 'd' above, how many resulted in a
reduction to the lowest band of pension payment?

Yours faithfully,

Claudine Paquet

Notes:

1) I have earlier made this request to the Police Service of Northern Ireland - and they say that they do not hold the information, but indicate you do.

2) I note from your web site you suggest a postal address is required when a FOIA request is made. I offer the below as I would not want to see this request refused because of any misunderstandings. I travel between several locations and email correspondence is more convenient for me than postal communication.

Section 8.1.b of the FOI Act asks for an "address for correspondence". It has been determined that an email address is sufficient.

The Ministry of Justice has guidance on this – "As well as hard copy written correspondence, requests that are transmitted electronically (for example, in emails) are acceptable ... If a request is received by email and no postal address is given, the email address should be treated as the return address."

The Information Commissioner's Hints for Practitioners say "Any correspondence could include a request for information. If it is written (this includes e-mail), legible, gives the name of the applicant, an address for reply (which could be electronic), and includes a description of the information required, then it will fall within the scope of the legislation."
