Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I would like to request information on the following:

1. How many children’s playgrounds were managed by the local authority in each year from 2009-10?

2. How many children’s playgrounds have been closed in each year since 2009-10?

3. How many children’s playgrounds have been opened in each year since 2009-10?

4. How much local authority money has been spent on children’s playgrounds in each year since 2009-10?

5. How many children’s playgrounds are proposed for closure within the next year (ie 2019-20)?

5. How much do you propose to spend on children's playgrounds in 2019-20?

6. How many children's playgrounds have been sold off to private buyers since 2009-10, who were the buyers and how much were they sold for?

Dear Mr Booth,

 

Thank you for your email of 5 April 2019.  I have reproduced your request
verbatim in bold, with my response beneath each section.

 

 

 1. How many children’s playgrounds were managed by the local authority in
each year from 2009-10?

Two

2. How many children’s playgrounds have been closed in each year since
2009-10?

In 2012-13 the Play Service transferred to Hackney Children and Families
Directorate, from Hackney Learning Trust.  No Young Hackney managed
adventure playgrounds have been closed since 2013-14.

The requested information for 2009-2012 is not held in a readily
retrievable format and there is no automated mechanism for the collation
of the required data. Therefore, provision of this information would
require manual review and processing of a large volume of data,
considerably exceeding the limit to time and resource under FOIA.

The Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and
Fees) Regulations 2004 has set the appropriate limit as £450 based on a
charge of £25 per hour. Section 12 of the Act states that the Council is
not obligated to comply with a request for information if the authority
estimates that the costs of complying with the request would exceed the
appropriate limit.  

3. How many children’s playgrounds have been opened in each year since
2009-10?

Young Hackney has opened no new adventure playgrounds.

4. How much local authority money has been spent on children’s playgrounds
in each year since 2009-10?

Adventure Play

Figures are available from 2013-14 following the transfer of adventure
play to the Children and Families Directorate within the Council.

In addition, four VCS organisations are funded for adventure play services
(Homerton Grove, Pearson Street Adventure Playground, Shakespeare Walk
Adventure Playground, Evergreen Adventure Playground). Total value 274K
per annum.

The requested information for 2009-2012 is not held in a readily

There are no proposals to close adventure playgrounds in 2019-20.

We are unable to confirm the budget for the council maintained adventure
playgrounds as accounts are in the process of being finalised.

However we are able to confirm that the Council intends to spend £274,000
in 2019-20 to support VCS adventure playgrounds as above.

7. How many children''s playgrounds have been sold off to private buyers
since 2009-10, who were the buyers and how much were they sold for?
