Dear FOI,,

Q1;
Delivering play pedagogy = Learning through Play at Early and First Level= Child led learning=Incorporating play provision throughout school day.

Q2;
Play based approaches :
Education Scotland have published advice on Play based approaches available at:
https://education.gov.scot/parentzone/le...
Play-based pedagogy has traditionally been one of the approaches used in the education of young
children in Scotland. This was endorsed with the introduction of Curriculum for Excellence (Building the
Curriculum 2 – Active learning in the early years and Building the Curriculum 3 – A framework for
learning and teaching) which empowers teachers and practitioners to select use developmentally
appropriate pedagogical approaches to meet the needs of their pupils.
In June 2013 the Scottish Government published the first National Strategy for Play. Within that
document play is defined as encompassing "children’s behaviour which is freely chosen, personally
directed and intrinsically motivated. It is performed for no external goal or reward and is a fundamental
and integral part of healthy development which seeks to improve play experiences for all children.”

Yours sincerely,

Petra Bird
