Dear Mr French,

Thank you for your request. My initial assessment is that the first part of your request is exempt under section 39(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 because this information is “environmental information”, as defined in regulation 2 of the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.  Your request must therefore be considered under these Regulations.

As it stands, your request has the potential to cover a vast amount of information, as you have identified which woodland you are interested in having the woodland management plans for. To avoid having to assess whether your request as a whole would be ‘manifestly unreasonable’ and exceed the equivalent of the cost limit in the Freedom of Information Act, and  therefore be exempt from disclosure under the provisions in Regulation 12(4)(b), I would like to offer you the opportunity to provide advice and assistance to you to refine the scope of your request. For example if you would be able to specify the woodland by name, or grid reference or by postcode, we can look at providing you with the woodland management plan for this woodland if it is one of the forests that has a woodland management plan in place.

You should note that this acknowledgement of your request does not mean that we hold the information you have requested or that we will disclose all or any of the information we do hold.  This is because a number of exemptions to disclose are available within the Regulations and may be applied.  If these are applied we will explain how they have been applied when we send our full response.

 Yours sincerely,
Julia
