Plain Clothed Policing

The request was successful.

Dear Merseyside Police,

Please can you Clarify

Do Merseyside Police allow and or instruct any form of police officer to enter Licensed establishments such as Pubs. Clubs or Bars and pose as a customer whilst on Duty ?

For example a police officer sitting in a pub whilst on duty ( Not consuming alcohol ) to Observe Licensing conditions are being met or to gather intelligence on possible crimes taking place in licensed premises.

Please not for this request I exclude operational reasons such as if you are following a suspect and they enter a Licensed Premises, Where you could not reasonably not follow the suspect without jeopardizing the situation at hand. ( For example following a suspected drug dealer )

Yours faithfully,

A Requester
