Physical Health of Out of County Mental Health patients

We're waiting for C Harrison to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear NHS South Kent Coast Clinical Commissioning Group,

Please could you advise me on the following :

1. How many of the CCG's Mental Health patients in 'out-of-county' specialist placements in private beds have been diagnosed with diabetes type II since being placed?
a. How many of those patients diagnosed diabetes type II since being placed have been on Olanzapine (or similar generation of SSRIs ) ?
b. How is weight increase monitored for those patients on Olanzapine (or similar generation of SSRIs)?
c. How is this weight increase recorded ie. is it just an individual’s record or are all patients’ records analysed to produce statistics on this ?

2. Are there any :
a. Overall national statistics recorded for the number of Mental Health patients who have developed diabetes type II since commencement of their treatment for their mental health issues?
b. Overall statistics recorded for Kent for the number of Mental Health patients who have developed diabetes type II since commencement of their treatment for their mental health issues?

3. Does the CCG 'out-of-county' statistics relating to Mental Health patients in specialist private bed placements refer to outside of 'Kent' or outside of 'Kent, Surrey & Sussex' ?

4. For an out-of-county specialist bed placement patient in a private institution - who is responsible for ensuring:
a. monitoring and management of conditions such as diabetes?
b. day-to-day physical health?
c. regular check ups for all physical needs?
d. suitable & timely treatment for all opthalmic and dental work?

5. If the private institution in which the placement is made is responsible for any of the above:
a. Does the CCG provide any guidelines to the institution for this responsibility and are these guidelines in the public domain?
b. Does the CCG ensure that any guidelines are being followed?
c. Does the CCG review physical health of these out-of-county patients to ensure they are getting appropriate care?

Yours faithfully,

C Harrison
