Pedestrian Crossings

The request was partially successful.

Dear Wakefield City Council,

I am looking into finding out about the location of pedestrian crossings in Wakefield Council. Please could you provide me with the following:

1) A list of all the different pedestrian crossings within Wakefield Council boundaries. Including the location of all formal crossings: Zebra, Toucan, Pegasus, Staggered Pelican/Puffin and Toucan crossings.

2) Information on the type of tactile paving used at each site.

3) A list of all lowered kerbs in the Wakefield Council district. Showing the location of each and paying particular attention to the ones intended for use as pedestrian crossing points.

4) The above would ideally include the use of the Geocoordinate system information of each site, but also the street name and location.

The information will be used to provide a complete map of the District to aid in the navigation of Wakefield Council for people with limited mobility or requiring the use of a wheelchair.

Yours faithfully,

Evan Howle

Dear Mr Howle,

Freedom of Information Act 2000 - Request for Information

I am writing in respect of your recent enquiry for information held by the
Authority under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act.

Please find the response to your request below.

Please find attached the list of Pelican, Puffin, Toucan and Pegasus
crossings (a total of 112) and also a list of 82 zebra crossings. Red
tactile paving is used on light controlled crossings (detailed in the
attachments) and on some heavily pedestrian routes where there is a
dropped crossing buff coloured tactiles are used. We do not have a record
of all the dropped crossings where buff coloured tactiles are used, nor
where there are dropped crossings with no tactile paving, only where there
are red tactiles.

I have attached a list of the new dropped crossings installed in the
Wakefield District from 2015 to the present day (a total of 204). These
are the only records we have for dropped crossings. Although nearly every
street in the Wakefield District may have a dropped crossing, no records
are kept of these locations. We have therefore attached all the relevant
data that we hold, and trust that it is satisfactory for your purposes.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any further queries
regarding this matter.

Yours sincerely
