Pedestrian Crossings

The request was partially successful.

Dear North Yorkshire County Council,

I am looking into finding out about the location of pedestrian crossings in North Yorkshire County Council. Please could you provide me with the following:

1) A list of all the different pedestrian crossings within North Yorkshire County Council boundaries. Including the location of all formal crossings: Zebra, Toucan, Pegasus, Staggered Pelican/Puffin and Toucan crossings.

2) Information on the type of tactile paving used at each site.

3) A list of all lowered kerbs in the North Yorkshire County Council district. Showing the location of each and paying particular attention to the ones intended for use as pedestrian crossing points.

4) The above would ideally include the use of the Geocoordinate system information of each site, but also the street name and location.

The information will be used to provide a complete map of the District to aid in the navigation of North Yorkshire County Council for people with limited mobility or requiring the use of a wheelchair.

Yours faithfully,

Evan Howle

Dear Mr Howle,

I refer to your recent Freedom of Information request regarding pedestrian
crossings in North Yorkshire, in which you asked:

1) A list of all the different pedestrian crossings within North Yorkshire
County Council boundaries. Including the location of all formal crossings:
Zebra, Toucan, Pegasus, Staggered Pelican/Puffin and Toucan crossings.

2) Information on the type of tactile paving used at each site.

3) A list of all lowered kerbs in the North Yorkshire County Council
district. Showing the location of each and paying particular attention to
the ones intended for use as pedestrian crossing points.

4) The above would ideally include the use of the Geocoordinate system
information of each site, but also the street name and location.

Please find below responses to each question in turn:

1)                See two spreadsheets attached which contain the
information required. One relates to Zebra Crossings and the other to
Signalised Facilities (including those at junctions as well as Pelican,
Puffin, Toucan and Equestrian Crossings). Please note that the data for
Zebra crossings shows the location of each “Belisha Beacon” rather than
each facility.

2)                This information is not held by North Yorkshire County
Council in a form which allows its provision within the timescales allowed
by a Freedom of Information request. Please see the separate attached
document which explains this in more detail. I can however confirm that
every crossing has tactile paving installed.

3)                Once again, this information is not held by North
Yorkshire County Council in a form which allows its provision within the
timescales allowed by a Freedom of Information request. Once again please
see the separate document which explains this.

4)                The data provided contains location data in terms of
Grid References/Coordinates and Street Names.

In the letter attached explaining why we cannot provide the data requested
in parts two and three of your request within the time limit set out in
the appropriate regulations, it is suggested that you may wish to submit
another FOI request with a narrower scope. I would however like to state
that North Yorkshire County Council recognises the good work that your
organisation is looking to do, and would be happy to look to work with you
to progress this. It may be that the most appropriate way to do this would
be a direct approach, rather than via the FOI process. If you would like
to contact us using the details provided on the attached letter, we would
certainly look to see what we can do to help within the limits of
available resources.
