Dear Transport for London,
Please provide me with detailed information on the number of
bus-pedestrian or bus-cyclist collisions resulting in injury on
Oxford Street (Marble Arch to Tottenham Court Road) by severity
(KSI, Slight, Total) and by year for the period 1 January 2006
through 31 December 2012.
On 7 January 2013, your FOI Officer (Graham Hurt) responded that I would receive a response by 4 February 2013. Furthermore, it has come to my attention that you have delayed similar Mayor's Question Time Questions from GLA Members (Deputy Mayor Victoria Borwick for over one year and Head of Transport Caroline Pidgeon for over three months).
Given Transport for London's duty of care to constantly monitor and evaluate the safety record of its subcontracting bus operators' services, what documented reason can you provide me for the delay in providing me this information as you must do under the Freedom of Information Act?
Yours sincerely,
Tom Kearney
Dear Mr Kearney
TfL Ref: FOI-1663-1213
Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 7
January 2013 asking for information about bus collisions on Oxford Street.
Please accept my apologies for the delay in replying.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 and TfL’s information access policy. I can confirm
that TfL does hold some of the information you require. You asked for:
Detailed information on the number of bus-pedestrian or bus-cyclist
collisions resulting in injury on Oxford Street (Marble Arch to Tottenham
Court Road) by severity (KSI, Slight, Total) and by year for the period 1
January 2006 through 31 December 2012.
Please see the attached tables. We have provided the information up to the
end of August 2012, which is the latest available. All 2012 data is
provisional and therefore may change. We expect finalised 2012 data to be
available in May 2013.
Please note that as you have requested information relating to ‘bus’
collisions (rather than ‘TfL bus’ collisions), we have provided the data
from S19 reports received from the police. The DfT recording category used
is ‘Bus / Coach’ and the figures shown therefore do not indicate that the
collision involved a bus operating TfL services. Also the Pedal Cycle data
only indicates that a Bus or Coach was involved in the collision; it does
not necessarily mean the Bus/Coach was in direct conflict with the cycle.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable
to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached
information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
Graham Hurt
