I am now in a position to respond to your noted questions/query as
follows;

Freedom of Information request - PCR & Covid

1.       I would be obliged if you could tell me under the Freedom of
Information act how many cycles are run as standard in the PCR test?

One of the methods we use (SAMBA) does not cycle different temperatures.
Instead, it uses a method called Nucleic Acid Sequence Based Amplification
(NASBA) which is an isothermal method. As a result, we are unable to give
cycle threshold values as the temperature remains the same throughout
amplification. Our LOD of 250cp/ml equates to around 34/35 Ct but this is
just a marker.

2.       How many deaths were due to Covid-19 alone and no other
comorbidities that are listed on the death certificate?

For the period 12 March 2020 – 12 July 2021, the Trust had 32 in-patient
deaths due to Covid-19 alone, with no other comorbidities listed on the
Death Certificate.

3.       What is the average age of death from COVID-19 from March 2020 to
current date?

For the period between March 2020 – 12 July 2021, the average age of
in-patient deaths from Covid-19 was 78 years old.

*As noted as part of the Trust’s acknowledgement email, staff are
currently responding to urgent operational issues in dealing with Public
Health priorities, and therefore any further information you may require
to that provided, as above, may be subject to delay at this time.
