PCNs issued for M1 type of vehicles in the Rotherhithe tunnel
Dear Transport for London,
Can you confirm if any vehicle has been fined in the year 2019 for using the Rotherhithe Tunnel for:
- Being wider than 2m
- While being a "M1" vehicle type (Passenger vehicle as defined here https://www.gov.uk/government/publicatio...)
In which case, can I have:
- The total number of such PCNs issued in 2019
- The list of the pair "Make"/"Model" with a number of fines issued for each pair.
If none have been issued can I have a copy of the discussions leading to not issuing these PCNs when the rules clearly state that they are not allowed as per https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/rotherh...
The first sentence ("Vehicles more than 2 metres (6'6") high, 2 metres (6'6") wide or goods vehicles weighing more than 2 tonnes (gross vehicle weight) are not safe to travel through the Rotherhithe Tunnel") clearly states that the 2m wide limit applies to ALL vehicles, and not only the goods vehicle ("N1" vehicle type)
Yours faithfully,
Olivier Rousseau

Dear Mr Rousseau
TfL Ref: FOI-3017-1920
Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 8
January 2020.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Unfortunately we do not hold the information you require. You asked:
Can you confirm if any vehicle has been fined in the year 2019 for using
the Rotherhithe Tunnel for:
- Being wider than 2m
- While being a "M1" vehicle type (Passenger vehicle as defined here
[1]https://www.gov.uk/government/publicatio...)
We do not hold the information.
As previously advised, the legislation only allows us to issue penalties
for goods vehicles which breach the weight restriction. This means we only
issue PCNs to goods vehicles and these are identified as having an 'N'
vehicle type classification at the DVLA. Passenger vehicles such as cars
will have an 'M' vehicle type and will not get a PCN.
If none have been issued can I have a copy of the discussions leading to
not issuing these PCNs when the rules clearly state that they are not
allowed as per
[2]https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/rotherh...
The first sentence ("Vehicles more than 2 metres (6'6") high, 2 metres

We do not hold any discussions on this matter. It is the legislation that
stipulates the rules on issuing PCNs to vehicles.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal.
Yours sincerely
