FOI, Scottish Water

Dear Ms Humphreys,

Thank you for your request for information which we processed under the
Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Your request for information was for the following:

Please provide the pay scales for Scottish Water Staff of all grades and
in particular Grades A-C from 2015 to 2019.

It would also be helpful if you could provide any guidance on pay scale
progression over these years and list how many Full Time Hours the scales
are based on and how many weeks the scales are based on.

The table below shows the salary band min and max for bands A to F from
2015 to 2019. Scottish Water was accredited as a Living Wage employer in
2015 and the minima of salary bands F and E increase in line with the
Scottish Living Wage rate.

Scottish Water differentiates pay progression based on performance. Pay
progression over the period varies per individual employee depending on
their performance gateway rating. The overall increases for employee pay
progression are stated below as well as the range of percentage increases
paid to individual employees per year.

For employees A-F, the pay progression mechanism has two main parts:

1.   Assessment of employees against two performance gateways, where
Gateway 1 is good and Gateway 2 is outstanding. Employees achieve Gateway
1 to be eligible for pay progression, while achieving Gateway 2 results in
higher value pay progression. Employees rated as underperforming are rated
as "Not through Gateway 1" and receive 0 pay progression.

2.   Those employees with salaries in the lower quarter of their range are
in the “acceleration zone” and subsequently receive higher values of pay
progression for achieving Gateways 1 or 2.

Scottish Water's management roles are on individual contracts with a broad
comparison made to the external market each year, based on evaluated job
size, rather than operating strict salary scales.

For employees in bands A to F, the salary stated refers to 37 hours per
week for 52.2 weeks per year. Employees are actually paid monthly in 12
equal instalments per annum.
