Pain Management in Western Trust.

The request was successful.

Dear Western Health and Social Care Trust (Northern Ireland),

As a neurologically complex person, I have PAIN- CONSTANTLY.
I would like to know across the trust :
1.What PAIN MANAGEMENT clinics there are?
2 .What pain consultant led clinics there are?
3. What types of clinics, pain control procedures, out patients, or day procedures?
4. Have we in the trust not appointed Dr Max Watson as a pain management specialist?
I am referring only to clinics run by medically specialised staff
- NOT the bought in from other agencies/charities such as Action Mental Health NI

in South West Acute Hospital Enniskillen.
in Omagh Primary Care complex (Hospital)
and in Alnagelvin.
or ANY other part of the WHSCT.

Yours faithfully,
Helen

Dear FOI Request,
Thankyou for the information received so for.
However, I have been made aware on the NISRA website, that there HAVE been a small number of patients being seen under a consultant led PAIN MANAGEMENT clinic in SWAH, for the past 4 years.
So you can see that is at odds with the statement i have been given.
2014- 15 : 12attended
2015- 16: 30attended
2006- 17: 24attended
2017- 18: 38attended
Can i also ask you, as part of this, to clarify for me the difference in "pain management" and "palliative care"
Helen

Yours sincerely,

helen hamill

FOI Request, Western Health and Social Care Trust (Northern Ireland)

This e-mail is covered by the disclaimer found at the end of the message.

Dear Ms Hamill

I refer to your email below which was received by the Western Health and Social Care Trust on 8th October. This included a few queries about the Trust FOI response (our ref. FOI/18/243). Please see below further clarification provided by our Acute services directorate.

- You asked: "I have been made aware on the NISRA website, that there HAVE been a small number of patients being seen under a consultant led PAIN MANAGEMENT clinic in SWAH, for the past 4 years."

Trust response: Any of the palliative care doctors may have seen patients in SWAH and these patients may have been coded as 'Pain Management' even though they were being treated through the palliative care network. Yes, they were being treated for pain but this was due to their life limiting illness and is part of their care pathway. The current pain management clinics finished in SWAH approximately 4 years ago.

- You asked: "Can i also ask you, as part of this, to clarify for me the difference in "pain management" and "palliative care"."

Trust response: Palliative care is the care of patients with a life limiting illness or requiring terminal care and pain management manages chronic pain in all patients.

I trust this provides you with the relevant clarification.

Kind regards
