Old age pensioners, housing benefit, universal credit and savings

Roedd y cais yn llwyddiannus.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

Currently people of pensionable age are entitled to receive Housing Benefit provided the have £16,000 or less in savings. Since Housing Benefit will eventually be subsumed into Universal Credit, which has an upper limit of £6,000 in savings in order to receive full entitlements, when old age pensioners begin to receive housing benefit as an element of Universal Credit does it follow that those who have more than £6,000 in savings will receive a reduced benefit not previously the case under the old system?

How much savings can pensioners own before losing money from the housing costs element of Universal Credit?

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Stephen Toy
