Subject: Number of Sequestrations within 2017 in relation to council tax

Thank you for your request for information of 14/02/2018 in which you asked the following:

How many persons have edinburgh council, in 2017, raised sequestrations against in relation to council tax bills. And made those persons bankrupt.

Further to your correspondence with the Council of 15/02/2018 we would be grateful if you could confirm your identity so that we can process your request under Freedom of Information legislation.

Section 8 of FOISA sets out what a request must include to be valid. If a request is invalid, the public authority is under no obligation to comply with the request and the Commissioner has no power to carry out an investigation into invalid requests or to order the authority to disclose information.

Please provide a copy of a document such as a driving licence or passport together with a utility bill or a document issued by a local or central government body. We can accept these in the following format:

Clear photographs of the document(s) by e-mail

Photocopies in the post

Original copies (which will be sent back to you)

We will not process your request for information until your identity is confirmed.

The City of Edinburgh Council raised 85 Sequestration Petitions in 2017 from which 37 people were declared bankrupt.
