The request was successful.

Dear Cheshire West and Chester Council,
Can you tell how many liability orders you have applied for since April 2008 to dec 2013?

How many of those orders have been refused by the magistrates?

And how many attachment of earnings you have done in each of these financial years?

How many have proceeded to bailiff action in each year?

FOI West, Cheshire West and Chester Council

Dear Mr Kelly

Thank you for your request for information of 1 January 2013 which has
been logged as 1733966 and has been dealt with under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000.  I confirm that Cheshire West and Chester Council
hold information relating to your request and am able to provide you with
the following response.

For the purpose of clarity,  I have reproduced your request and append the
answers beneath each question:

Can you tell how many liability orders you have applied for since April
2008 to dec 2013?

Please note that we can only answer your questions from April 2009.
Cheshire West and Chester Council was vested as a new authority in April
2009, replacing the four legacy authorities of Vale Royal Borough Council,
Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council, Chester City Council and part
of Cheshire County Council.

How many of those orders have been refused by the magistrates?

This information is not held.

And how many attachment of earnings you have done in each of these
financial years?

The following figures are Liability Orders not individuals so if an
individual has more than one Liability Order passed to the Employer these
will be counted accordingly. If an individual moves from one employer to
another and we apply more than once in a year then this will be counted
accordingly.

Year                     Ctax

2009/10              2,040

2010/11              1,975

2011/12              1,986

2012/13              1,998

2013/14              2,030

How many have proceeded to bailiff action in each year?

The following figures are Liability Orders not individuals so if an
individual has more than one Liability Order passed to the bailiff these
will be counted accordingly. If an individual has been passed to a bailiff
firm and the firm has been unsuccessful in collection we routinely pass
the Liability Order to a different firm for collection. This may mean a
Liability order is counted more than once. There will also be a crossover
in Financial years between when a Liability Order is obtained and when it
is passed to the bailiff in some cases.

Year                     Ctax

2009/10              8,523

2010/11              9,700

2011/12              9,324

 2012/13             7,786

2013/14              6,073

I trust this answers your enquiry.
