Number of children with a palliative diagnosis
Dear Barts Health NHS Trust,
Could you please provide me with the following information:
1) The number of children known to you who are classified as having a palliative diagnosis, or who are not expected to live in to adulthood classified by postcode.
2) The number of expected deaths in your trust, broken down by hospital, for children in 2018-2019.
3) The number of child deaths on your premises who can be classified as 'expected', that were offered the choice of a place of death, either in the community or a hospice or other.
Yours faithfully,
R. Costello

Dear R Costello
The Trust has received your request, however, before we can proceed we require some clarification from you.
You have asked for data on the number of children with a palliative diagnosis. However, you have not specified what diagnoses you are interested in, other than them being 'palliative', therefore, please can you confirm whether you agree to narrow the scope to the following:
• Palliative Care (PC) patients are identified as having a diagnosis of either ‘Z515’ (Palliative Care), or ‘Z518’ (Other specified medical care).
Alternatively, please provide the specific diagnoses you are interested in.
We understand 'children' to mean patients 0-17 years (inclusive).
In accordance with the FOI Act and the FOI Code of Practice, your request will be put on hold while we wait your clarification and the clock restarted once sufficient clarification has been received.
Yours sincerely

Dear FOI,
Further to your response on 21.05.19, I hope I can clarify some of my request. I would be grateful if you could let me know how many hospital admissions and bed nights you have recorded for ‘Z515’ (Palliative Care).
Yours sincerely,
R Costello
Dear R Costello
Thank you for your prompt response. Since your request has slightly changed, please can you confirm the time period you are interested in? (i.e. 2018/19)
Can you also confirm whether you still want to know:
1. the number of unique patients AND
2. the number of admissions AND
3. the number of bed nights?
(One patient may have had more than one admission)
In accordance with the FOI Act and the FOI Code of Practice, your request will be put on hold while we wait your clarification and the clock restarted once sufficient clarification has been received.
Kind regards
Maria Björklund
