Dear Black Country Partnership NHS Foundation Trust,

Please could you provide me with details of the following incidents that occurred in mental health facilities managed by your trust on an annual basis, broken down by year from 2011 to 2018:

• Total number of reported patient on staff assaults in mental health facilities managed by your Trust each year
• Total number of reported patient on patient assaults in mental health facilities managed by your Trust each year
• Number of reported arson attempts / deliberately started fires in mental health facilities managed by your Trust each year
• Number of reported assaults that included a weapon (knife, razor blade, needle etc) in mental health facilities managed by your Trust each year
Total amount paid in compensation by the Trust as a result of reported assaults by patients at mental health facilities managed by your trust each year.

FOI 17-278- request regarding assaults 

Thank you for your recent Freedom of Information request on the above
subject. We have completed our search for information and the details are
as follows:

 

In relation to compensation payments, we do not hold the information that
you have requested, the information would be held by the NHS Litigation
Authority.  Therefore please contact the NHSLA who should be able to
provide a figure of how much they have paid in compensation on our behalf.

 

See below for additional information, please note that the Trust only
holds data as far back as 2014 and I’ve included 2018 incidents so far (to
28/03/18):

4. Assaults with Weapon – as the Trust does not have a category for
assault with weapon, only ‘Weapon Found’ we are unable to provide this
information as the category on our system does not necessarily link to an
assault.
