NOx & nitrogen deposition - Wensum SAC species

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Norfolk County Council should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Norfolk County Council,

In relation to the proposed construction of the Norwich Western Link road has Norfolk County Council :

Undertaken an assessment of whether the effect of increased NOx emissions, and or nitrogen deposition, and/or dust related pollution due to the proposed development would individually or in combination with other sources have an adverse effect on the integrity of the Wensum Special Area of Conversation (SAC) to include but not limited to the impact of the same on the health and welfare and habitat of known inhabitants of the SAC namely barbastelle bats, white-clawed crayfish, otters, water voles, lamprey and eels.

If such an assessment has been undertaken please produce the results of the same.

Yours faithfully,

Andrew Boswell

Freedom of Information, Norfolk County Council

Dear Mr Boswell

Freedom of Information Request ENQ-439676-Q8F7D0

I refer to your request for information dated 26 October 2020.

You asked:

        has Norfolk County Council :

Undertaken an assessment of whether the effect of  increased  NOx
emissions, and or nitrogen deposition, and/or dust related pollution due
to the proposed development  would  individually or in combination with
other sources have an adverse effect on the integrity of the Wensum
Special Area of Conversation (SAC) to include but not limited to the
impact of the same on the health and welfare and habitat of known
inhabitants of the SAC namely barbastelle bats, white-clawed crayfish,
otters, water voles, lamprey and eels.

•       If such an assessment has been undertaken please produce the
results of the same.

Our response:

A Habitat Regulations Assessment (HRA) has not been undertaken at this
time, however, this will include assessment of potential effect pathways
(including as a result of potential air quality changes) on the qualifying
features of the River Wensum SAC. Otters, barbastelle bats and European
eel are not qualifying features of the SAC, therefore these species will
be assessed in the Environmental Statement (ES). Both the HRA and ES will
submitted to the local planning authority towards the end of 2021.

If you are dissatisfied with our handling of your request you have the
right of appeal through the Council’s internal review procedure by setting
