Jenny Foggin,

Dear Ms Craigs,

I do apologise for the late response; as I explained in my earlier email, we discovered a bug in the data - but I'm sorry this has meant that you have had to wait.

The figures do not change significantly from year to year during the period that you have asked about, and have, historically, only ranged between 5% and 10% of first year students.

For the three years you mention, overall 5.1% of full-time undergraduate students in their second year of study were registered on a different programme during their first year of study - ie, had transferred between programmes either during their first year, or between their first and second year. This equates to approximately 320 students per year. This calculation excludes those second year students who did not progress normally (for example, those who did not progress for academic reasons, or who took study leave because of ill health or other issues). It also excludes those students who changed to a different variant of the same programme; we have only included in the data students who transferred from one programme to an entirely separate programme.

I hope this is helpful in resolving your query, and I do apologise again for the delay.

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request and wish to make a complaint or request a review of our decision, you should write to or email directly Mr D Wardle, The University Complaints Officer, The University of Leeds, Leeds, LS2 9JT ([email address]). Further information about how the University manages Freedom of Information requests and about our complaints procedure is also available on our website (www.leeds.ac.uk).

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the review/complaints procedure provided by the University. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

Best wishes,

Jenny Foggin
