Dear Freedom of Information,

Could i please clarify that i am looking for the number of crimes that have been screened ‘out’ for further investigation or ‘filed’ shortly after it was reported to the police. These are cases which do not qualify for investigation after an initial screening process. These are not simply cases of No further action, but cases that were screened out.

Yours sincerely,

Gurpreet

Cook, Karen, Nottinghamshire Police

Dear Gurpreet,

Nottinghamshire Police does not have a policy of 'screening out' crimes. Every report to the Police is recorded and is subject to a proportionate investigation and treated on its merits. The Force has specific working practices as to certain crime types that are dealt with and recorded at the first point of contact, ie the call into the Control Room, and each Incident is attended by the appropriate Police resource, investigated, and then a decision made as to whether a recordable crime has been committed. If that is the case, a crime number is allocated by the Crime Management Bureau.
All such crimes are reviewed to ensure that forensic opportunities are not missed, together with ensuring that investigation opportunities such as contacting witnesses and house to house enquiries are completed.

Kind Regards
