NHS Agency and Bank Rankings Q1 20/21

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, NHS Improvement should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear NHS Improvement,

Can you please provide me with a full list of trusts, ranked based on their agency spend as a percentage of gross pay, for Q1 2020/21. I would like the list of trusts ranked lowest to highest based on their performance, with 1 representing the lowest agency as % of gross pay.

If possible, could I also request a full list of trusts, ranked based on bank spend as a percentage of gross pay, for Q1 20/21. I would like the list of trusts ranked from highest to lowest based on their performance, with 1 representing the highest bank as % of gross pay

Yours faithfully,
Ellis Sausman

Dear FOI (NHS ENGLAND & NHS IMPROVEMENT - T1520),

Many thanks for providing the requested information. Regarding the rankings, I just wanted to check that their are no issues or caveats to this quarters data, as in comparison to Q4 19/20, some trusts have significantly changed their ranking.

For example, for agency, East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust was ranked 28th in Q4 19/20 but is ranked 210th for Q1 20/21. Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust was ranked 144th in Q4 19/20 and was ranked 7th in Q1 20/21. There are various other examples like this.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,
Ellis Sausman

Dear Mr Sausman

We write further to your email 18 November 2020 seeking clarification of
your FOI response.

We can confirm that the information we provided was accurate as of 16
October 2020 (i.e. the date you submitted your FOI request). Due to
COVID-19, some agency data submitted by trusts for quarter 1 had some
restatements and so it is likely the rankings have changed following this.

If you would like us to process a new FOI request using the new dataset we
hold please let us know. We can process this and will endeavour to provide
a response within 20 working days following receipt of your email.

Yours sincerely
