Dear Royal Mint,

Please provide me with copies of all process notes, policies and procedures related to new coin designs. I am particularly, interested in the steps involving communications with persons not employed by the Royal Mint (for example securing approvals for new designs).

Yours faithfully,

Mr Cross

Dear Mr Cross

By way of update I have been liaising with colleagues at the Royal Mint Museum who are involved in the process related to new coin designs and interactions with the Royal Mint Advisory Committee and the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Although we always endeavour to respond to requests for information within 20 Business Days, on this occasion I am requesting some additional time in order to provide the response. A combination of the Christmas break and the absence of a key member of staff at the Museum has put us a little behind so we will endeavour to provide you with our response as soon as possible and by no later than the end of this month.

I hope this is acceptable but please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns.

Kind regards

Dear Mr Cross

I write further to your Freedom of Information request (below) and our email to you of 16 January 2018 requesting a short extension of time for our response to end January.

The nature of your request for information is quite wide, as drafted, and could cover a variety of matters, likely to bring into scope exemptions under the Freedom of Information Act or otherwise take it beyond appropriate cost limits. However, to aid our interpretation, you helpfully clarify in your request that you are most interested in "communications with persons not employed by the Royal Mint (for example securing approvals for new designs)".

To that end I attach The Cabinet Office's Triennial Review of the Royal Mint Advisory Committee which sets out comprehensive details of the UK coinage approval process.

I also set out a link to the Royal Mint Museum website where we outline the role of the Committee http://www.royalmintmuseum.org.uk/about-....

I hope you will find this information of interest.

By way of formality, if you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests should be submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the response to your original letter and should be addressed to:

Mr Vin Wijeratne
Chief Financial Officer
Royal Mint
Llantrisant
Pontyclun
CF72 8YT

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Please be aware that the Commissioner will be unlikely to make a decision until you have been through our internal complaints procedure first. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.
Kind regards

Yours sincerely
