MSc International Political Economy - Reinstatement

We're waiting for Elias Bernhard to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear London School of Economics,

Could you kindly provide the number of students that, after successfully securing an offer, decided to instead reinstate their application in the next admissions cycle. Of those students, how many then also received an offer in the following cycle as part of the reinstatement application. Respectively, for the MSc International Political Economy, for the past three academic sessions. Thank you in advance.

Yours faithfully,
Elias Bernhard

Thank you for your email. As you will appreciate, information requests
place additional demands on the School in terms of costs and staff time.
At present we are having to prioritise our finite resources in order to
meet the unprecedented challenges we are facing during the Coronavirus
(COVID-19) pandemic.  As such, we need to advise you that while we will
continue to process individual requests, you may experience some delay in
our response during the current pandemic.

Dear Elias

Further to your recent FoI request, the Schools response is provided
below:

MSc International Political Economy:  Number of students that, after
successfully securing an offer (A), decided to instead reinstate their
application in the next admissions cycle (B) and how many received an
offer in the following cycle as part of the reinstatement application (C).

Year of initial Number of offer Number of offer holders who Number who
application holders (A) reinstated to the next year received an
(B) offer in the
next year (C)
2018/9 109 2 2
2019/0 110 4 3 (+1 reserve
offer)
2020/1 134 14 13

Please Note: The difference between last year and previous years is that
the LSE stopped accepting deferral requests, due to the pandemic. Anyone
who wanted to be considered for this year had to reinstate alongside the
new cohort.

Could I ask you to think about the underlying question that is prompting
your data request. If you are attempting to find out what are your chances
of getting a place, remember that this cannot be answered by reference to
data. Applications are considered on their individual merits, based on a
holistic view of your supporting documents in the context of the current
cohort. Figures from previous years will not offer any insight on your
application. Your best way to find the answer is to apply.

If you think that the information provided does not meet your request,
contact Rachael Maguire on 020 7849 4622 or write to Louise Nadal, School
Secretary, London School of Economics and Political Science, Houghton
Street, London, WC2A 2AE. We will then review the response to your request
and get back to you within 20 working days. You can also contact the
Information Commissioner's Office [1]http://www.ico.gov.uk/, though they
expect the internal review to be carried out before receiving a complaint
directly.
