Dear Ms Walton,

Re: Freedom of Information Request *** Serious Case Reviews

I am writing to confirm receipt of your e mail dated 2nd August 2010 in
which you request the below information appertaining to the Serious Case
Review published on the 27th July 2010.

"Can you give details of all monies paid by Birmingham LSCB to the
NSPCC
and it's agents (incl John Radford) in respect of the review***

As you are aware Local Safeguarding Children Boards have a statutory
responsibility for reviewing all deaths of children under the age of
eighteen through the Child Death Overview arrangements as well as
commissioning Serious Case Reviews. Although Local Safeguarding Children
Boards are not public authorities for the purposes of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000, Birmingham Safeguarding Children Board are committed
to enhancing understanding of why children die and driving forward action
to reduce the number childhood fatalities.

The Birmingham Safeguarding Children Board commissioned the NSPCC to
undertake the Independent Overview Author role and to Chair the Serious
Case Review Panel in relation to the death of Khyra Ishaq. The NSPCC
recognised the importance of this case and agreed to not only provide the
necessary critical independence, but on this occasion, demonstrated the
NSPCC commitment by undertaking the work at no cost.

I hope you find this information of assistance.
