Notes:

·         Financial information contained in table 1, relating to the
repair of pot holes excludes emergency repairs and making safe as these
works are combined in our records, to include all emergency response and
repair, such as collapsed ironwork, flooding, fallen trees.

·         Our strategy is to carry out a permanent repair, first time,
rather than making a pot hole safe with temporary material and revisiting
for the permanent repair. Emergency repairs to pot holes are only carried
out for reasons such as; if the location is hazardous, complex traffic
management required for the permanent repair or major resurfacing or other
highway/utility company work is planned soon etc.

·         The information provided for spend is for each financial year,
March to November, and includes the permanent repairs to pot holes. This
does not include items such as overheads for depots, vehicles, plant,
provision of emergency response, supervisory and contract management staff
costs etc.

·         The information contained in table 2, relates to the quantity of
pot hole enquires reported for each District/Borough area, and recorded on
our fault reporting system between 01 April 2016 and 31 March 2019.

·         The enquiries include:

o  Customer reported enquiries by Phone, Email, Web, In person

o  Reports by the Police

o  A small number of reports by Highways staff

·         Our records of reported pot holes include the following, which
are unlikely to result in work being undertaken by Hertfordshire County
Council:

o  Reports on private land

o  Faults which do not meet intervention levels

o  Reports which are not the responsibility of HCC (e.g. District /
Borough

o  Duplicate reports
